An entity is a generic term used to identify something that exists by itself – in other words a thing.  It’s a person, an object, a concept – that can be recognized by itself.

  • In a sentence it’s a noun.
  • In XML it’s likely an element (but it could be an attribute)
  • In a relational model it’s a logical entity.
  • In a glossary it would be the term
